The game was decided in the bottom of the 9th inning. After an out was recorded, Zoilo Versalles doubled. Harmon Killebrew next to the plate and he drew a walk. Tony Oliva then drew a walk to load the bases. Pete Mikkelsen then fired a sharp breaking ball that appeared to cross-up the catcher. In any event, it got by him and was ruled a passed ball resulting in a mighty exciting win for Minnesota and the 46,615 home town fans in attendance. Minnesota finished with just 5 hits in the victory. Bill Pleis(3-1) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Mikkelsen(4-2) took the loss in relief. He surrendered 1 hit and 2 walks in 1/3 of an inning. |
