Subject: Expos at Mets Game 157

Wally Whitehurst is given a 1-0 lead and he makes it stand up with a 2-hit shutout.

Not much else to say except the Expos wasted 8 good innings pitched by Nabholz and Hernandez.

Expos have a 2.5 game lead over the Cubs with 5 to play. 3 up in the loss column.

Wally Whitehurst took a no-hitter into the 7th inning as the New York NL Mets

outscored the Montreal Expos 1 to 0.

Whitehurst(2-8) came through with a virtuoso performance against the
 Montreal

hitters.  He didn't allow much, just 2 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings lowering

his ERA from 5.23 to 4.60.  The right-handed Whitehurst had his no-hit bid

broken up by Moises Alou who singled with one out in the 7th inning.

Montreal tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.

The losing pitcher was Chris Nabholz(17-4).  He gave up 1 run and 4 hits in 5

innings.
