Subject: take this one seriously (subtitled trading problems)
Due to some of the trades, and trade offers that have been going around, we felt it was necessary to review some trading guidelines... 1. Every trade must be able to stand on its own...Eiither make it a 3 way deal to start with, or make the players even to start with.. Nothing where one side clearly wins and a few weeks or whenever another deal with the other team coming out on top. Reasoning: This smells of future considerations which are illegal. You are also counting on the other owner to live up to his end of the bargain. IF the owner leaves, or changes his mind, you are screwed. 2. This is a retro league, and every knows (or should know) the players future.Trading Roberto Clemente for Carl Yazstremski seems like a fair deal, since both are hall of famers. However, making that deal in 1972 is not an even deal since we all know Clemente is literally gone after that season... 3. SInce we have a list of rookies for the next 10 seasons already, they will not be considered your property until the end of the previous season. Any trades talks involving them would be considered future considerations and thus illegal. 4. This isn't a problem yet, but from past leagues I know it might be.. If an owner makes a series of deals and then quits the league, we reserve the right to rescind all the deals made, in fairness to the new owner. We have had stable ownership but over time committments change/people need something new etc... We are working on the honor system here. IF you want to work out deals 3 years down the road, we can't stop you, , but if we find out, you will be penalized..When Al and I first put this league together, we considered no trading at all, as we wanted it to mirror actual rosters as much as possible. We agreed that owners would want to trade to get a favorite player or whatever. We put trading of draft choices in starting with the 70 draft, but I am in favor of eliminating that part again.. If we continue to see (or hear) conditional trades we will tighten the trading rules again. We are in this purely for fun. Consider this the final warning..... Mike aka management |
