Sox sweep the Brew Crew to get back to the .500 mark. After 1-5 last week, they go 5-1 this week.

game 1: A Mo Vaughn sac fly gave Boston a 1-0 lead in the first. Milwaukee tied it in the 3rd. With 2 outs, they got their first hit of the game and then followed with 1 of just 4 hit chances on Darwin's card. 2b 1-10 single with a runner on first they needed the 2b to score. The split was 10 and the play at the plate was a 1. John Valentin snuck a single through the infield with the bases loaded in the 8th (11 on a 1-11 chance) to give Boston the 2-1 win. Darwin went 8 innings for the win and Lilliquist tossed a perfect 9th for the save.  The odd fact for this game:  there were only 2 walks, both intentional and both to Mo Vaughn (the second loaded the bases for Valentin's winning hit).

game 2: Sox played loaded em up and clear them out in this one. In the first Boston struck for 5 runs to knock Dave Stewart out. After a lead off out, 3 straight Vaughn singles brought in a run. How can Vaughn get 3 straight hits you ask? 2 were x play singles to Greg in the field and the 3rd was by Mo the batter. After Valentin singled to load them up, Eric Anthony took Stewart deep for a grand slam. Milwaukee got 2 back in the 3rd on a triple, double and single. Boston put this one away in the 8th. The inning started routinely enough. Out, error, out but then an intentional walk and a regular walk loaded the bases for Rob Deer. He cleared the bases but not the way you would expect. He got a 2b and then came all the way around on the ensuing 2 base error. Boston won 9-2.  Boston outhit Milwaukee 8-7 but the 2 bases clearing at-bats made them much more efficient. The Brewers stranded 10 to Boston's 2.

game 3: A repeat of game 1 as Boston won 2-1 although in a different manner. Greg Vaughn homered with 2 outs in the first for the Brewers only run of the game. 2 x play singles followed before Saberhagen got out #3. He didn't allowed another hit (or baserunner) until 2 out in the 6th. Boston opened the 5th with a double and single to put runners on the corner. After a strikeout, Kirby lifted a sac fly to tie the game. Next batter finally got a hr split, but it was Jose Lind who settled for a single. Wegman got Greenwell to ground out to end the threat. Stayed tied until the 11th when Kirby again came through with a sac fly to score the winning run. The Boston bullpen allowed just 1 hit (erased on a dp) and no walks in 4 innings. Boston outstranded the Brewers 12-5 in this one to keep it close.
