july 28 Dave Wickersham allowed Kansas City's manager to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game and third baseman Dick Allen cracked a homer and had 4 RBI as the Kansas City A's defeated the New York AL Yankees 10 to 6 at Municipal Stadium. Allen enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He delivered a one-base hit which scored a run in the 1st inning, smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' (his 28th of the season) in the 3rd inning and doubled which was good for two runs in the 7th inning. Kansas City and New York AL each finished the night with 8 hits. The winning pitcher was Wickersham(7-13) who allowed 6 runs for the game. Sam McDowell(9-7) was the loser. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 8 runs in 5 innings.
