august 1 Baltimore wins on a late rally in bottom of the 8th August 2 In a good matchup it was the New York AL Yankees 5, the Baltimore Orioles 3 in 10 innings at Memorial Stadium. The score was tied at 3 after nine. Finally, New York AL pulled the game out in the 10th inning. After two were out Mickey Mantle kicked off the action when he slapped a single. Clete Boyer came next and he blasted a two-run home run (his 6th of the season). New York AL had 10 hits for the night while Baltimore had 6. The victory was credited to Hal Reniff(3-1) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs. The losing pitcher was Dick Hall(1-5) in relief. New York AL took the lead for good in the 7th inning scoring one runner utilizing 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Johnny Blanchard slapped a one-base hit. Ford next to the plate and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Tony Kubek then banged out a single scoring the run. New York AL banged out 10 on the afternoon. Ford(7-12), allowing 1 run for the game, picked up the victory. Robin Roberts(10-10) took the loss. He pitched 7 and 2/3 innings giving up 9 hits and 2 walks.
