All series Boston repeatedly found the one out in the middle of a sea of on base chances that thwarted scoring chances. game 1: Darwin and Johnson were all that and more in this one, going a combined 20 innings with 3 walks and 21 strikeouts. Boston drew first blood in the 3rd on a Lind ground out. Deer struck out with the bases loaded to end the inning. Vaughn doubled in a run in the 5th to double the lead. Seattle got on the board in the 6th, thanks to the Boston defense. 2 hits on x play splits of 1 produced the unearned run (the 2nd one was a single+error). In fact Seattle's first 3 hits used a combined 4 on the split cards. Reynolds' 2 out single in the 7th tied the game. Boston had a chance in the 9th. With 2 outs, the Sox got a single and double but couldn't score. Neither team threatened until the 12th. Boston had 2 on but Lind (92%) popped out on a bunt and Vaughn k'd to end the inning. Seattle got a lead off double in the 12th but couldn't move him. Going into the 13th, Rob Deer was a perfect  5-5, as in 5 strikeouts in 5 at bats. He led off with a single and stole second. A sac bunt moved him to 3rd but Zupcic k'd on a 1-6 (the out in the middle of hits) but Cooper came through with an rbi single to give Boston the lead. Henke had a 1-2-3 bottom of the inning to save the 3-2 win. game 2: Deer obviously found his groove as he homered twice as Boston built a 3-0 lead after 5 1/2 innings. Haselman's 2 out single got Seattle on the board in the 6th and the pulled within one when Reynolds homered in the 7th. In the 8th, Hesketh came on to face 2 lefties. He hit Griffey with a pitch and then, after an x play passed ball, served up a 5-4 roll for 2 run homer.. The split the ultra high #2. Brown not only got the out in the middle of the hits in the 9th, it was a game ending double play. game 3: Boston got 2 singles and 2 walks in the first and didn't score thanks to a double play grounder. Seattle got 2 doubles in the first to go up 1-0. Berryhill had an rbi triple in the 2nd but couldn't score as Brown missed a bp single chance (split of 15). That was the scoring until the 10th inning. With one out, Babe Fermin drove one deep. It somehow missed being a homer but Fermin ended up with a double. Lofton followed with a single and Seattle had the 2-1 game and series win.
