august 11 34,083 fans were treated to a fine game at Metropolitan Stadium as only one run separated the combatants at game's end. The New York AL Yankees won by the slimmest of margins, 6 to 5. The game was deadlocked at 3 after nine full innings. New York AL won it in the 11th inning. Elston Howard opened up the inning nicely when he doubled. After an out was recorded, Vic Power came up and he was hit by a pitch. Tom Tresh then doubled driving in a run. Clete Boyer came up and he would hit into a fielders choice plating one more runner. Mickey Mantle came to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly scoring the final run of the inning. New York AL managed 9 in their victory. Hal Reniff(4-1) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 and 2/3 innings. Ryne Duren recorded the save, his 1st. The losing pitcher was Gary Bell(1-10) in relief.
