Mike Morgan(6-15) was on top of his game in Chicago NL as he tossed a beauty of a no-hitter against the Montreal Expos. The Chicago NL Cubs won by a score of 2 to 0.
Morgan had an evening to remember. Heck, it's one we'll all remember! What a game at Wrigley Field! He walked just one Montreal batter. The tension was mounting with every inning after the 6th. Morgan appeared oblivious himself to the mounting history until two were out in the 9th. Only then, did he allow himself one deep sigh and a slow trip around the mound. Neither team managed to score after the 3rd inning.
The loss was charged to Dennis Martinez(18-7). He surrendered only 2 runs and 3 hits in 8 innings. When asked how his stuff was out there, Morgan looked a bit incredulous (as did this reporter) and replied 'A bit better than average, I'd have to say'
