august 18 Left fielder Tom Tresh blasted a homerun and scored 3 times as the New York AL Yankees defeated the Chicago AL White Sox by the score of 8 to 1 at Comiskey Park. New York AL set the tone of the game in the first inning scoring one runner on 2 hits. Nellie Fox doubled. After an out was recorded, Joe Pepitone came up and he slapped a base-hit. Elston Howard then hit a sacrifice fly scoring the run. New York AL finished with 17 hits while Chicago AL ended up with 4. The winning pitcher was Whitey Ford(9-12) who allowed 1 run in 8 and 1/3 innings. The loss was charged to Jack Kralick(12-7). He pitched 6 innings and surrendered 11 hits and 1 walk. Albie Pearson had a big evening at the plate. He cracked a two-run shot (his 1st of the season) in the 2nd inning and doubled bringing in two baserunners in the 6th inning. Chicago AL finished with 10 hits in the victory. It was the 4th shutout of the year for Horlen(13-6). The right-handed Horlen lost his no-hit bid when Elston Howard singled with two outs in the 7th inning. Pedro Ramos(2-12) was hit with the loss. He gave up 7 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings of work. 'He was moving it around and spotting it very well.' New York AL's manager said. Horlen pitched a great game. He deserves all the credit.'
