Mudcat Grant tossed a complete game as the Minnesota Twins clobbered the
outmatched New York AL Yankees, 12 to 2.
Grant(10-12) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He didn't allow much,
just 7 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. Minnesota finished with 11 hits in the
victory.
Al Downing(9-14) was the losing pitcher. His biggest problem was control as
he allowed 8 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.

Rick Wise had a strong outing as the Minnesota Twins topped theNew York AL
Yankees by a score of 4 to 1 at Metropolitan Stadium.
Bob Allison enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He doubled bringing in two
baserunners in the 6th inning and cracked a two-run shot (his 36th of the
season) in the 8th inning. The game was a scoreless duel until the 6th
inning.
Wise(1-0) got the win allowing 1 run in 8 innings. Jim Perry gained credit for
his 9th save. Sam McDowell(11-8) was the losing pitcher.
Minnesota continued their winnings ways improving their record to 67-77. They
are 8-2 in their last ten games. With this loss, New York AL has a 4-6
record of late, 63-81 overall.

One run was the difference at Metropolitan Stadium as the Minnesota Twins
defeated the New York AL Yankees 4 to 3.
Minnesota jumped out to the early lead in the first inning plating an isolated
run. After two outs Harmon Killebrew lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' (his
43rd of the season). Minnesota won despite being out-hit by New York AL 10
hits to 5.
The victory went to Joe Gibbon(5-9) who went 7 and 2/3 innings, allowing 3
runs. Gibbon got help from Jim Perry who was credited with his 10th save.
Whitey Ford(9-13) was hit with the loss.
