Frank Thomas went deep and had 6 RBI as the Chicago AL White Sox defeated the Minnesota Twins by a score of 13 to 12 at New Comiskey Park.
Thomas was spectacular at the plate. The hometown fans showed their appreciation with a standing ovation his last time at bat. He doubled scoring two baserunners in the 1st inning, lost the ball over the fence for three runs in the 2nd inning and stroked a base-hit which plated a run in the 3rd inning. Minnesota threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
Ben Rivera(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 3 and 1/3 innings and allowing 3 runs. Jeff Tabaka recorded his 1st save. Mark Guthrie(3-5) was the losing pitcher. He got hit hard, allowing 11 hits and 3 walks in 3 innings.
Darren Dawson was reflective after the loss, 'We should have won this one, we just made one too many mistakes. Son-of-a-gun, that added a couple more white hairs on this noggin of mine.'
