39,459 fans were treated to a fine game at Kauffman Stadium as only one run

separated the combatants at game's end.  The Kansas City Royals won by the

slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.

Kansas City had 2 runs cross the plate in the 4th inning.  After an out was

recorded, Bob Hamelin got things rolling when he drew a walk.  Wally Joyner

next to the plate and he tripled.  Scott Leius then doubled.  Both teams'

bats went to sleep after the 4th inning with no runs scored after that point.

Tom Gordon(4-4) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 7 innings. Gordon got help

from Jeff Montgomery who was credited with his 7th save.  Bob Milacki(6-6)

was the loser.

The Minnesota Twins tallied 5 runs in the 7th inning and nipped the Kansas

City Royals 9 to 8 at Kauffman Stadium in a hard fought contest.

In the 6th inning Minnesota went on top for good scoring one runner on 2 base

hits.  After an out was recorded, Chili Davis doubled.  Dave McCarty next to

the plate and he stroked a base-hit, and an error was also committed.

Minnesota banged out 9 hits on the night.

Mark Guthrie(5-7) went 6 innings allowing 7 runs for the win. Rick Aguilera

preserved the game for Guthrie, recording his his 12th save.  Mark

Gubicza(4-5) was hit with the loss.

'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his

best stuff,' Darren Dawson said after the game.  'Guthrie did not have

command of his pitches most of the night, but he proved he really knew how to

pitch!
