39,459 fans were treated to a fine game at Kauffman Stadium as only one run separated the combatants at game's end. The Kansas City Royals won by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.
Kansas City had 2 runs cross the plate in the 4th inning. After an out was recorded, Bob Hamelin got things rolling when he drew a walk. Wally Joyner next to the plate and he tripled. Scott Leius then doubled. Both teams' bats went to sleep after the 4th inning with no runs scored after that point.
Tom Gordon(4-4) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 7 innings. Gordon got help from Jeff Montgomery who was credited with his 7th save. Bob Milacki(6-6) was the loser.

The Minnesota Twins tallied 5 runs in the 7th inning and nipped the Kansas City Royals 9 to 8 at Kauffman Stadium in a hard fought contest.
In the 6th inning Minnesota went on top for good scoring one runner on 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Chili Davis doubled. Dave McCarty next to the plate and he stroked a base-hit, and an error was also committed. Minnesota banged out 9 hits on the night.
Mark Guthrie(5-7) went 6 innings allowing 7 runs for the win. Rick Aguilera preserved the game for Guthrie, recording his his 12th save. Mark Gubicza(4-5) was hit with the loss.
'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his best stuff,' Darren Dawson said after the game. 'Guthrie did not have command of his pitches most of the night, but he proved he really knew how to pitch!

The Kansas City Royals nipped the Minnesota Twins in 11 innings 4 to 3 at Kauffman Stadium in a hard fought contest.
The score was knotted at 2 after nine innings. Kansas City won it in the 11th inning. Bob Hamelin slapped a single. One out later, Scott Leius got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. John Patterson then ripped a base-hit giving Kansas City the win as 46,293 happy fans joyfully celebrated. Kansas City totaled 10 hits on the afternoon.
The win went to Mike Magnante(3-3) who allowed no runs in 1/3 of an inning. Rick Aguilera(1-2) was the loser in relief. He surrendered 2 runs and 4 hits in 1 and 2/3 innings.
