Boston had at least 3 splits of 3 and no hits to show for it. game 1: Of the Yankees first 5 hits, the first was a bp single that just fell in (split of 9 on the 1-9 chance) and the other 4 were all x play hits. The Yanks used 2 of those hits to get a run in the first but Valentin homered in the 2nd to tie the game. In the 3rd, Mouton had an rbi single, stole second and scored the final run of the game as Boston held on for the 3-1 win. Although he allowed just 6 hits, Clemens walked 6 in his 8 innings. Henke came on in the 9th and the first 2  batters rolled 2-3 and 3-2. What would normally be 2 outs were 2 walks. Henke recovered with a strike out and dp to end the game. game 2: Instead of xp singles, the Boston defense contributed errors in this one, 4 of them to be exact. The Yankees got a run in each of the first 3 innings. The only run that was earned was aided by a wild pitch. Canseco homered in the 2nd and, after 3 walks loaded the basesBerryhill had a  triple in the 5th to put Boston up 4-3. Stanley's 2 out homer in the bottom of the inning tied the score. In the 7th, Hesketh's 2nd error of the game was followed by a Spike Owen homer. The Yanks added one more run in the inning to win 7-4. game 3: Danny Darwin got a rare start and the Boston offense decided to take the day off. The Sox got 3 hits and hit into 4 double plays in this one. Merker walked 5 in the complete game shutout. Yanks got 3 in the first and 4 in the 4th to win 7-0. game 4: Saberhagen and Key faced off so you knew this one would come down to who got the breaks. When Boggs started the Yankee first with a bp split of 2 it was clear which way the breaks would go. 3 more Boston errors led to 2 of the 3 Yankee runsbeing unearned and that was the difference in the 3-1 game. Not once, but twice, Canseco got the split of 9 on a bp 1-8 hr chance. The teams combined to turn 18 double plays in the series, with at least 4 in every game.
