Uh, we're not dead yet, Dennis.... :-) Clutch pitching, clutch defense.... where has this team been for 4 seasons? Thanks to timely DPs and runners (mostly Maury Wills) being gunned down, the Dodgers stranded just one runner all day. L.A.'s 1-0 lead was a brief one, Vada Pinson's 3-run shot taking care of that, and two more runs in the 8th sealed up the 6-1 win. Note that the total number of relievers used by the Cubs so far this eries is zero. We don't *always* do the stupid thing after all.... Bot 7th: Vada Pinson robbed Frank Howard of an extra base hit. Larry Jackson had a strong outing as the Chicago NL Cubs beat the Los Angeles Dodgers by a score of 6 to 1. In the top of the 4th inning Chicago NL scored 4 runs when they had 3 base hits. The critical plate appearance was by Vada Pinson who silenced the crowd when he rifled a three-run blast (his 30th of the season). Chicago NL managed 9 in their victory. The win was credited to Jackson(16-13) who went the whole way allowing 1 run. Jim Brewer(8-7) took the loss. 'I thought it was my best performance in a long time,' said Jackson. 'I had good command early in the game. I had my control and composure and everything went well.'
