The Marlins come very close to winning 2 of 3 and played New York very tough in all 3 games.
G1 Ten of the game's 11 runs were scored in the first 3 innings as the Mets held a 6-4 lead after the first set of innings. Not only did the Marlins help NY by providing 3 of the 6 runs by way of the unearned variety, but starting pitcher Kevin Ritz added an RBI single in the Mets' half of the 3rd to provide the eventual winning run and rub salt in the wound. In the 6th Florida pulled to within 6-5 when Chuck Carr singled stole his 51st base and scored on Jeff
Conine's sac fly. With the Braves done scoring, the Marlins could manage just 1 single from their final 10 batters, and Atlanta held on to a 1-run opening victory. New York out-hit Florida, 14-10, and Jeff Kent's 3 hits led both teams.
Final Score: New York 6, Florida 5 WP- Ritz 7-8, LP- Leiter 7-11,

G2 Old man Charlie Hough (9 4 1 1 3 6) will start Florida's final game of the season when they host the Braves at home. It'll be hard to match his start at Shea in this one. The first hit off of Hough was Len Dykstra's leadoff single in the 4th, and the knuckleballer
took a shutout into the 9th. With 2 outs and 2 on, Ryan Thompson doubled home Dave Hollins in the 9th to prevent the shutout. Hough took a deep breath, and the righty calmly retired PH Todd Hundley on a groundball to 2nd. Gary Sheffield continued a magnificent 1994 with his 42nd homer to lead off the 7th inning. With 5 games to go, Sheffield brings forward a .342 average, 104 runs scored, and 110 RBI. The mercurial slugger now qualifies for the batting title, although he'll probably finish 5th, and of course, he's now the franchise record holder in all 4 previously-mentioned categories.
Final Score: Florida 3, New York 1 WP- Hough 8-11, LP- Leftwich 8-9 HR- Sheffield (42), Vander Wal (6)
G3 The Marlins looked as if they'd cruise to a final win in New York as they compiled a 5-0 lead after 7 innings. New pickup Marvin Freeman (4 1 0 0 0 1) tired early, but combined with 3 relievers on a 4-hitter through 7 frames. In the 8th inning, New York received a 3-run bomb by Bobby Bonilla- his 40th of the season. Nonetheless, Florida only needed 3 more outs to win the rubber game. Robb Nen was brought in and promptly allowed a single to Jeremy Burnitz, recorded an out, and hit catcher Todd Hundley to put the tying run on base.Bo Jackson pinch-hit and used his hustle to beat out a potential game-ending double play grounder. With 2 on and 2 out, Ryan Thompson was announced as the pinch hitter, and he rolled the 4-3 ballpark homer. With a split pull of 6, New York had a 3-run home run for the 2nd consecutive inning
and a game-ending blast.
