sept 5 Pedro Ramos(4-12) and Galen Cisco(15-10) locked horns in a pitcher's duel with Ramos and the New York AL Yankees coming out on top of the Detroit Tigers 2 to 1. Ramos put on a good performance. He didn't allow much, just 6 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings. Detroit made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. Hal Reniff earned the save, his 17th. Ralph Terry(6-5) finally bested his Detroit counterpart, Jim Bunning(15-14), by the score of 3 to 1. New York AL brought 2 runs across the plate in the top of the 3rd inning. That early scoring was all that Terry needed. Both teams totaled 5 on the night. Hal Reniff was credited with his 18th save. Bunning ended up with the loss. He was the victim of a defensive lapse and did not allow an earned run in the game. New York AL won the game with a rally in the 8th inning with 2 runs using 4 hits. Bobby Richardson led off the inning for New York AL when he laced a base-hit. Pepitone next to the plate and he lined a one-base hit. Elston Howard then stroked a single bringing in a run. Mickey Mantle got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim. Tom Tresh came to the plate and drew a walk to load the bases. After another out, Clete Boyer stepped up to the plate and he singled scoring the final run of the inning. Detroit went down without a fight in the bottom of the 9th. The win was credited to Stottlemyre(7-5) who went the whole way allowing 2 runs. Ron Kline(4-3) was the losing pitcher in relief.
