Previous message                 Next message Message #: 31183 Message from: Michael Tomeo Sent: Sep 10, 2014 Subject: nya-boa games 1 and 2 The first American League series finally got underway and the host Sox were as snakebitten as their Padres counterparts, at least in game 1. game 1: New York wasted little time in striking first. After Boggs barely missed his bp homer chance to start the game (split of 4 on the 1-3 chance), Brumfield doubled on his 1-6 flyout chance (another split of 4) and scored 2 batters later on a sac fly. Brunansky and Greenwell had back to back 2 out doubles in the 2nd to tie the game. Greenwell missed his hr 1-9 chance. In the 3rd, Paul O'neill launched a 3 run 2 out homer (split of 3 on a 1-4 chance). Canseco and Vaughn had back to back 2 out singles in the bottom of the inning to get back to within 1. Clemens recovered briefly and struck out 4 of the next 6 Yankees over the 4th and 5th innings. Boston had a runner on 3rd with 1 out in the 4th and couldn't score. In the 5th they had runners on the corner with 1 out and Vaughn up. He has 2 gbA chances on his card. You guessed it....inning over. WIth 2 outs in the 6th, Mattingly had a hr 1-4 chance and got the 3. In the bottom of the 6th, Greenwell got his 2nd double of the game and scored on a Valentin single to again cut the lead to 1. With 2 on, Lind got an 8 on his 1-6 chance to end the inning. Dave Clark led off the Yankee seventh with a bp homer (split of 1 on the 1-3 chance). Canseco connected on a towering shot over the Green Monster to make it 6-5 and that is where it ended as the last 14 batters combined went down in order. Boston outhit the Yankees 11-6 but stranded 7 to the Yankee's  2. game 2: Little different story in this one as 3 was wild for Boston. They scored 3 runs in an inning 3 times to even the series at 1. Valentine tripled and scored on a Lind sac fly to open the Boston first. Eusebio, Vaughn and Brunansky all doubled (the last an x play hit) to bring in 2 more runs. Boggs had a 2 out 2 run bp single in the 2nd to cut the lead to 1. In the 4th, Clark hit his 2nd homer of the series, on another split of 1 (at least it was 1-8 chance this time) to tie the game. But Boston went right back to work. 5 of the first 6 batters singled (3 on rolls of 6-8) and Boston was up 3 again. Jackson avoided further damage by striking out Vaughn and Brunansky with runners on the corner.  In the 6th, Boston struck for their last trio of runs. Valentin opened with his 4th hit of the game and Lind bunted him to second. McDowell pinch hit and singled. Canseco stepped up and got the 2 on the 1-2 triple chance. He scored on a Vaugn single to make it 9-3. In the 8th, the Yankees used 2 singles, a wild pitch and a Bernie Williams single to score 1 run. After Boggs walked to load the bases, Kevin Bass was brought it to hit against Joe Hesketh (who came on in the 6th inning). Bankhead came in and struck out Bass to end the threat and get the save after a 1-2-3 9th inning. After an off day the series heads to New York for its conclusion, hopefully friday night.
