Central division crown with a very difficult contest in Chicago.  The Reds, who have excellent hitting but utterly lack starting pitching (and don't forget our eternal Arson Squad either), are going to play a *LOT* of games like this in 1995....     Tim Pugh opposed Frank Castillo in what should have been a mismatch, as Castillo has a very good card in 1995.  The Reds confirmed that fact immediately when HAL had all 4 of our first-inning batters roll there, batting .000 in the process.   Then the most screwed defense in the major leagues picked up exactly where it left off in 1994, committing not one, not two but THREE errors in the first inning alone!  An unearned run was the result however Pugh pitched out of the jam and limited the damage.   Still rolling almost exclusively on Castillo's card, the Reds foiled HAL by finding some nuggets in the form of a single and a pair of home runs by Bret Boone and Eddie Taubensee to make the score 3-1.   Pugh began to fold immediately thereafter and permitted 4 hits in the bottom of the inning but again limited the damage to just one run and maintained a 1-run lead.   Brian Hunter doubled and scored on Thomas Howard's 2-out single to put the visitors back up by a pair, but a timely 2-out error by Hal Morris donated another unearned run to the Cubs in the 5th, and the contest once again tightened undeservedly.   All scoring for the day was completed in the 7th when the Reds tacked on a pair of runs with reliever Toby Borland on the mound, and the Cubs led off with a Shawon Dunston gopher to make the score 6-4.   Dunston was Pugh's last batter, and Tim Fortugno & Todd Jones provided a bit of heart-attack relief (3 IP, 3 hits, 1 HBP but no runs).  Still down by a pair, CHN's Mark Grace surgical-split-card tripled with 2 outs and nobody on in the bottom of the 9th, but pressed his luck and tried to make it an IPHR.  Hunter surprised Grace with a quick and accurate throw from center field and ended the game on the play at the plate.   As will become typical for the Reds in 1995, this one featured a lot of hits, a lot of runs, a lot of total bases and a lot of blown-x plays (nearly 100% of those coming against the Reds of course).  At least the pitchers had their control most of the time: there was 1 BB today in 18 IP -- Castillo walked Morris in the 1st inning -- but there were 2 HBP.   Alan
