Sox win their 6th straight series to open the season. game 1: With 2 outs in the first, Naehring singled and scored on a Vaughn double to give Boston the early lead. Jaha's 2 run homer in the bottom of the inning gave the lead to Milwaukee and Hamilton's lead off homer in the 3rd make it 3-1. Valentin homered to lead off the 6th but Boston left the bases loaded when 4e13 Surhoff handled the x play cleanly. The Brewers got a double and 3 singles to stretch the lead to 5-2 after 6. Fletcher doubled and scored on a sac fly in the 7th to cut the lead to two. Head to the 9th and the Sox have to face Wetteland, working his 2nd inning of relief. Fletcher roped another double and Fabregas singled him to 3rd. After Valentin bunted Fabregas up, pinch hitter Tinsley came through with an rbi single and Naehring followed with a 3 run homer. Slocumb finally got the 3rd out of the inning without throwing a pitch.. he picked Canseco off first. In the bottom of the 9th, Seitzer drew a one out walk. He stole 2nd and continued to 3rd on the throwing error. He scored on a Morandini single but Jaha grounded out to end the game. This was an odd game as the split cards were generally low, with 7 1's coming up (8 if you count the stolen base in the 9th inning). game 2: This one was 0-0 through 3 with both Eshelman and Givens pitching well. Boston had another runner picked off in the 2nd inning. With 1 out in the 4th, Eshelman had allowed just 1 hit and 1 walk. 6 of the next 7 batters got hits (including back to back triples) and the Brewers led 4-0. Thome had an rbi single in the 7th and came around on back to back wild pitches to make it 6-0. Valentin's rbi single in the 8th broke up the shutout and made the final 6-1. game 3: Boston out hit Milwaukee 15-12 and both teams left 12 men on base but Boston managed to win 14-2. Mouton led off the game with a home run and it was all downhill from there for the Brewers. After Oquendo struck out, the Sox got 1b-1b-walk-walk-1b-hbp-sac fly to score 4 more times. A walk and 2 more hbp's loaded the bases in the 2nd but Boston couldn't score. 2 2b's and 2 1b's in the 3rd produced 2 more Boston runs. Jacome finally retaliated in the 3rd, hitting Surhoff to load the bases and Milwaukee got a run on a sac fly to make it 7-1. Boston put the game away with a 6 run 5th. 3 walks and 3 singles produced 3 runs before Mouton delivered a bases loaded double to make it 13-1. |
