The 2 teams combined for 11 runs and 30 hits in the series. Texas scored just 1 run that wasn't a result of a home run. game 1: Of the 9 splits cards used, only 2 were single digits and both went to Texas. Texas won 4-0 as Juan Gon hit 2 solo homers and Pat Kelly a 2 run shot. Meanwhile John Burkett was keeping his (well into the) future teammates handcuffed. Boston got just 1 hit and 1 walk and left just 1 man on base thanks to 2 dp's. Boston committed more errors than they had hits (2-1). Cormier pitched well except for the 2 homers he allowed. game 2: It took Boston one batter to equal their hit total from game 1 as Valentin led off with a double and was sacrificed to third. Oleary struck out and Vaughn missed a bp homer to end the inning. In the bottom of the first Belle got a 3b 1-2 with 2 outs but was stranded as well. Oleary led off the 4th with a hr on Boston's first single digit split of the series. Greenwell added a sac fly to make it 2-0. Stayed that way until Tettleton hit a 2 out 2 run homer in the 6th to tie it up. Texas got the game winner in the 8th on a walk and 2 x play singles to win 3-2. game 3: With Vaughn Eschelman facing Kenny Rogers it looked like a sweep was all but assured. Someone forgot to tell Eschelman as he tossed 6 shutout innings, allowing just 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3. Boston once again did not get a single digit split card in this game. Mouton led off the game with a 15 on a hr 1-13 chance. He would score on a bases loaded walk with one out. Canseco and Greenwell both struck out to end the inning. That missed opportunity for more runs looked big as the game remained 1-0 until the 7th. Mouton walked, stole second (after missing his 44% jump), went to third on a flyout and scored on a passed ball. Rich Garces made his first appearance of the season and gave up a lead off x play single in the 7th before getting the next 3. He allowed a one out double in the 8th as well. Belinda loaded the bases with a walk and 2 singles with just 1 out but got Palmer on a flyballC and Gil on a grounder to save the shutout.
