Sox take the first 2 for their 10th series win of the year. KC is pretty bad against lefties so Boston threw 2 real life KC lefties for their 2 wins. game 1: Boston used 3 straight singles to open the 2nd to get a 1-0 lead. Tinsley's solo shot in the 6th made it 2-0 but KC came right back with a run on a Joyner sac fly. Boston finally broke it open with a 3 run 8th. Alviro Espinosa led off the inning with his first hit, not of the game but of the season (in his 18th ab). He moved up on a grounder and scored on a Valentin double. Valentin would later score on a Vaughn double. The 3rd run of the inning scored on a 2 out Leuis error to make the final 5-1. Chris Haney went 7 innings, allowing just 4 hits and 1 walk and saw his era rise to 0.74. game 2: Jason Jacome followed his real life teammate to the mound and pitched just as well. He went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and 1 walk. The first 4 hits were all rolls of 4-7 and the fifth was a triple off the hitters card. This one was over early as the Sox put up a 4 spot in the first inning. Oquendo led off with a single and was bunted to second. After another ground out, Vaughn was hit by a pitch and then Oleary and Greenwell had rbi singles before Valentin had a 2 run double. In the 4th, Greenwell led off with a hr and Valentin was hit by a pitch. Fabregas doubled him home and would score on an Oquendo single to make it 7-0. Greenwell added an rbi gounder in the 7th to complete the Boston scoring. KC managed runs in the 5th and 7th on sac flies. (that makes all 3 runs kc has scored so far a result of sac flies). KC loaded the bases on 3 bp singles in the 9th but couldn't score to make the final 8-2. game 3: Canseco doubled and scored in the 2nd to put Boston up early. Mouton tripled and Vaughn followed with a 2 run homer in the 3rd to make it 3-0. Meanwhile, Wakefield was sailing along with a 2 hit shutout until the 6th inning. 2 singles were followed by a Nunnally hr to make it 3-3. After a pair of groundouts, back to back triples gave KC their first lead of the series. In the 9th, Boston's first 4 hitters got singles but the Sox only managed 1 run thanks to the 100% jump 80% safe Greenwell being caught stealing. In the bottom of the 9th, Cedeno lifted a fly to right with a runner on second and 1 out that Canseco let hit off his head for a game winning double. After failing to get a hit in the first 30 games of the season, Espinosa had a hit in all 3 games and saw his average jump to .135. |
