Knock the cover off the ball and can't pitch or play defense to save their lives. Sox take the bookends game 1: After Jefferson pulled a 19 on his bp homer chance (1-11) to end the first, Knoblauch gets the 11 to lead off the bottom of the first. Oleary hit a 2 run bp homer in the 2nd to put Boston on top. Walbeck had a "clutch" rbi single in the 2nd but was thrown out at the plate to end the inning one batter later. In the 3rd, Boston took no chances with the bp homers as Jefferson had a 2 run auto hr and that was followed by Vaughn's auto hr to chase Radke. After a single, Greenwell found the auto hr on the pitchers card to make it 8-2. Obviously uncomfortable with a big lead, the Sox gave most of it right back. After the inning started with out-hb-out, Davis hit an auto hr. That was followed by 1b, another hb, and then a double+throwing error to make it 8-6. Vaughn had another auto hr in the 5th and he doubled and scored on Valentin's triple to make it 10-6 in the 7th. Jump to the 9th and the Twins open with a double and single. After a sac fly (one of the few successful x plays in the game for Boston) an x play single, an out and and error loaded the bases. Assenmacher came on and struck out Becker to end the game. game 2: How else should the Twins first start but with a single+error x play? Knoblauch moved up on a flyball and scored on a grounder to give the Twins the 1-0 lead. Boston tied it in the 4th when Vaughn was hit by a pitch to start the inning. He eventually scored on a Haselman single. Rbi singles by Knoblauch and Moliter made it 3-1 in the 5th. A couple wild pitches, an rbi single by Greenwell and an rbi double by Haselman tied it in the 6th. With 2 outs an a man on first, the Twins got 3 straight hits (their only 2 extra base hits of the game), including back to back 6-6 rolls to take the 6-3 win. Boston ended up with a season low in runs in this one. game 3: Vaughn's 3rd auto homer of the series gave Boston a 2-0 lead in the first. Boston loaded the bases with 2 out in the 2nd but couldn't score. Valentin's 2 run homer in the bottom of the inning tied it up. Boston's Valentine answered with a solo homer in the 3rd to put Boston on top for good. Eusubio had an rbi double and Bragg a 2 run single in the 4th. Twins loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning but Davis missed his 1-2 shot at a grand slam. Canseco reached on a 2 base error to start the fifth and scored on a Naerhing single. In the 6th, Canseco hit a 3 run homer and Eusebio a 2 run shot. Cordova's 2 out single in the 7th stopped the 10 run run by Boston. In the 9th, Bragg reached on a  2 out error, Bournigal singled, and Frye hit a pinch 3 run homer to complete the 15-3 drubbing. Gordon went the distance to save the bullpen from yet another disasterous performance.
