Subject: RE: [SmileyList] game play rules
Steve, I know of no way to tell, but furthermore, I also don't know that it's evidence of cheating (which is why I lean against using the Lock League function). I know I have clicked on the Intentional Walk button by mistake; if you accidentally click on Bunt or Steal you can recover, but the IW occurs automatically except in Pitcharound situations. Alan -----Original Message----- From: S Bivens [mailto:oslo77@...] Sent: Monday, November 12, 2001 9:09 PM To: SmileyList@yahoogroups.com Subject: RE: [SmileyList] game play rules Alan, I have never bothered to look, but is it possible to tell in the play by play if the "Undo Last Play" option has been used? How about manually entering or "Quick Play"? If it is possible to tell if the "Undo Last Play" option has been used, wouldn't this be proof of cheating? I can't think of any instance where it would be necessary to use this option. Otherwise, "proof" will be hard to come by... Steve B. -----Original Message----- From: Alan Boodman [mailto:aeb1@...] Sent: Monday, November 12, 2001 4:55 PM To: SmileyList Subject: [SmileyList] gameplay rules Some owners have lately been noticing and reporting on the disparity in road-vs-home records of some teams (not necessarily just in 1970, but in some cases over the years), and have raised questions as to whether we're all playing by the same rules in our road games. I believe that the following is stated in the Constitution, or at least in the Instructions: Always give the HOME team 5 days off before playing the first game of the series. Even more importantly: Do not use the "Undo Last Play" option, do not manually enter dice rolls or results, do not use the "Quick Play" option, and certainly do not discard a game once it has begun. I find it very difficult to believe that any owner would cheat in a league like this, where we are playing for absolutely nothing other than the enjoyment of it, and of course there will always be random variations in home/road records. Those things generally reflect merely the degree of "luck" a team has, which is usually a temporary condition (whether good or bad) and tends to even out over the course of several seasons (but not always). We have no choice but to work on the honor system here, and I sincerely hope that winning (or in some cases, losing) is not so important to any owner that they would feel the need to cheat to accomplish their goals. I personally do not believe that anyone *is* actually cheating (if I did, and had proof, expulsion from the league would occur), but the issue has been raised, and I feel it's best to have things out in the open rather than having owners suspicious of each other in private.
