Bob, Interesting post. It delights me that we have someone with this kind of knowledge!! Could you please give a HYPOTHETICAL to the mathematical impossibilities you refer to? Nothing leaps to my mind...but wouldn't a mathematical impossibility be "proof" of cheating? Steve B. -----Original Message----- From: bob lind [mailto:lindinmoskva@...] Sent: Monday, November 12, 2001 6:34 PM To: SmileyList@yahoogroups.com Subject: RE: [SmileyList] game play rules There isn't. I am a software developer by trade and have studied PAC files pretty extensively. I have also called Strat support and talked to a software engineer. This is a common request that hasn't been implemented by Strat (yet). You can tell some things by looking at date/time stamps. Were the games played in order (indicating that someone replayed a game out of sequence). Are there gaps in the date/time stamps? (although as a father I can attest that it could mean that a small child needed attention). Did a player do something that was mathematically impossible indicating that someone altered the game results? Even if one locks the league from manual entry/ undo, one could still exit the game if he were losing and replay. The only thing you can do is to be honest and play the game with integrity and hope that your opponent does the same. The key to a successful league is to only have owners that will play honestly. bob From: "S Bivens" <oslo77@...> Reply-To: SmileyList@yahoogroups.com To: <SmileyList@yahoogroups.com> Subject: RE: [SmileyList] game play rules Date: Mon, 12 Nov 2001 18:09:15 -0800 MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: from [216.115.96.77] by hotmail.com (3.2) with ESMTP id MHotMailBDB9CB47003B40043253D873604D9C70276; Mon, 12 Nov 2001 18:12:51 -0800 Received: from [10.1.4.56] by n27.groups.yahoo.com with NNFMP; 13 Nov 2001 02:10:53 -0000 Received: (EGP: mail-8_0_0_1); 13 Nov 2001 02:10:52 -0000 Received: (qmail 92968 invoked from network); 13 Nov 2001 02:10:52 -0000 Received: from unknown (216.115.97.171) by m12.grp.snv.yahoo.com with QMQP; 13 Nov 2001 02:10:52 -0000 Received: from unknown (HELO uhura.concentric.net) (206.173.118.93) by mta3.grp.snv.yahoo.com with SMTP; 13 Nov 2001 02:10:52 -0000 Received: from marconi.concentric.net (marconi.concentric.net [206.173.118.71])by uhura.concentric.net [Concentric SMTP Routing 1.0] id fAD2Apn21322 for <SmileyList@yahoogroups.com.>; Mon, 12 Nov 2001 21:10:51 -0500 (EST) Received: from steve1 (da001d0500.lax-ca.osd.concentric.net [64.0.145.245])by marconi.concentric.net (8.9.1a)id VAA11941; Mon, 12 Nov 2001 21:10:49 -0500 (EST)

How about manually entering or "Quick Play"? If it is possible to tell if the "Undo Last Play" option has been used, wouldn't this be proof of cheating? I can't think of any instance where it would be necessary to use this option. Otherwise, "proof" will be hard to come by... Steve B. -----Original Message----- From: Alan Boodman [mailto:aeb1@...] Sent: Monday, November 12, 2001 4:55 PM To: SmileyList Subject: [SmileyList] gameplay rules Some owners have lately been noticing and reporting on the disparity in road-vs-home records of some teams (not necessarily just in 1970, but in some cases over the years), and have raised questions as to whether we're all playing by the same rules in our road games. I believe that the following is stated in the Constitution, or at least in the Instructions: Always give the HOME team 5 days off before playing the first game of the series. Even more importantly: Do not use the "Undo Last Play" option, do not manually enter dice rolls or results, do not use the "Quick Play" option, and certainly do not discard a game once it has begun. I find it very difficult to believe that any owner would cheat in a league like this, where we are playing for absolutely nothing other than the enjoyment of it, and of course there will always be random variations in home/road records. Those things generally reflect merely the degree of "luck" a team has, which is usually a temporary condition (whether good or bad) and tends to even out over the course of several seasons (but not always). We have no choice but to work on the honor system here, and I sincerely hope that winning (or in some cases, losing) is not so important to any owner that they would feel the need to cheat to accomplish their goals. I personally do not believe that anyone *is* actually cheating (if I did, and had proof, expulsion from the league would occur), but the issue has been raised, and I feel it's best to have things out in the open rather than having owners suspicious of each other in private.
