Subject: Montreal at Cincinnati
Three tightly fought contests. This time the Expos sweep three, mainly due to either some clutch Expo hitting or non-clutch Red pitching... New Montreal manager attached. Game 1 Luis Aparicio had 4 hits and 2 RBI at Riverfront Stadium where the Montreal Expos beat the Cincinnati Reds 5 to 3. Steve Renko(8-4) had a fairly solid outing. He went 6 innings surrendering 8 hits and no walks and was touched for 2 homeruns. Montreal finished with 9 hits in the victory. Jack Aker earned the save, his 21st. Tom Seaver(11-4) was given the loss. He gave up 6 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings. Game 2 First baseman Dalton Jones touched them all at Riverfront Stadium as the Montreal Expos beat the Cincinnati Reds in 10 innings by the count of 5 to 3. The score was tied at 3 after nine. Montreal won it in the 10th inning. Ken Harrelson led off the inning for Montreal when he reached on an error. After an out was recorded, John Bateman stepped in and he doubled which scored a run. Dave Campbell then laced a one-base hit. Luis Aparicio came up and he lined a single scoring the final run of the inning. Montreal finished with 10 hits in the victory. The win went to Jack Aker(1-2) who allowed 1 run in 2 innings. Mike Marshall was credited with his 3rd save. Joe Hoerner(0-2) absorbed the loss in relief. He surrendered 2 runs and 3 hits in 1 inning. The Montreal ballclub's record now stands at a division leading 47-25. With the loss Cincinnati now has a record of 36-36. Game 3 12,896 fans watched an exciting game at Riverfront Stadium. The Montreal Expos put 4 runs on the scoreboard in the 7th inning and topped the Cincinnati Reds by the slimmest of margins, 6 to 5. Montreal had 4 runs cross the plate in the top of the 7th inning with the help of 4 hits. The highlight belonged to Luis Aparicio who helped quiet the crowd when he doubled scoring two base runners. Cincinnati had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short. Mike Wegener(4-1) went 6 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. Mike Marshall was credited with his 4th save. Jack Billingham(7-4) was hit with the loss in relief. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 5 hits and 2 walks in 2 innings. 'It was a tough one to lose' said Alan Boodman 'We'll get them next time out.' |
