Padres go up the I-5 and drop the opener before winning the next 3.

game 1: Stop my if you've heard this one before. Gomez rolls the hr 1-10 and misses it, settling for a double. This time it was Leo and Chris getting robbed. Made no difference as 2 batters later Karros smacked an auto hr for a 2-0 Dodger lead. Velarde's 2 out single in the 2nd cut the lead to 1 but the Dodgers went right back to work. After 2 quick outs, 2 walks and a balk were followed by a 2 run single by Gomez. The Padres used their 1 good split card to tie it up in the 3rd. Finley and Gomez opened the inning with singles before Erstad homered (split of 1 on a 1-3 chance). That split of 1 was in the middle of 7 other splits for both teams that were either a 15 or 16. Leo Gomez led off the bottom of the 5th with a double and was still there after 2 flyouts before Vizquel singled him in. In the 8th Joyner led off with a double and scored on a Santiago single. The Padres would load the bases before Chris Gomez grounded out to end the inning. Dodgers used walk, sb, single to score the winning run in the bottom of the 8th. Decided there wasn't much chance of getting the 1-18 runner at the plate, SD cut the throw so the split just had to be a 20. Padres didn't put up a fight in the 9th and LA won 6-5.

game 2: Ashby and 2 relievers combined on a 4 hit shutout. The Dodgers 4 hits were all split card hits, including 2 x play singles. The 4 splits totalled 9 (2,1,2,4). Meanwhile SD put this one away early with a little help from LA. Finley walked to start the game and Hundley then threw Discarcina's bunt into right field for a 2 base error. Gwynn singled in a run, Caminiti walked, Joyner had an rbi single and Santiago had a sac fly for the first out. A wild pitch brought in run #4. Caminiti had an rbi single in the 2nd and Santiago an auto hr in the 6th to complete the 6-0 win.

game 3: Padres again have a big first inning and then hold on for the win. Walk, single, single, walk brough it a run and set the stage for Santiago's auto grand slam to make it 5-0. Cianfrocco  followed with a single before the next 3 batters were retired. That would be the offense for the padres as they got just 2 more hits the rest of the game ( and 4 walks). The Dodgers would get 12 hits in this one, with a mere six of them being splits of 3 or less(4 of them being a 1). Mondesi had an rbi double in the first and the Dodgers got another one in the 2nd on a bases loaded walk. Stayed that way until the 7th when the Dodgers got 2 bp homers (1-4 chance splits of 1 and 2). Hoffman pitched the 9th for his 20th save of the year as SD won 5-4.

game 4: Leo Gomez struck again in this one, hitting an auto hr in the 3rd to give LA the lead. Hundley hit a 2 run shot (split of 3) after a 2 out hbp in the 4th to widen the lead. Meanwhile, SD's first 6 splits were 3 17's 2 20's and a 2. Finley got SD on the board with an auto hr in the 6th. After 2 quick outs in the 7th, Chan Ho Park came unglued. A walk, single (split of 2) and walk loaded the bases. Another walk forced in a run before Park couldn't handle a comebacker to the mound. 2 more walks gave SD a 5-3 lead. All 5 walks were off Park's card. LA loaded the bases in the 7th but Hundley struck out to end the inning. Being underused at home, Hoffman came on in the 8th. He has like 4 partial hits on his card. First batter rolls 4-6 and misses the triple 1-3. Next batter, who just had to be Leo Gomez, rolled 4-5 and got the 1-5 hr chance to make it a 1 run game. Caminiti had an rbi double in the 9th to restore the 2 run lead. Mondesi ended the game missing that same 1-3 triple roll. SD won 6-4.
