Pete Schourek(5-3) was on top of his game in Detroit as he tossed a beauty of a no-hitter against the Kansas City Royals. The Detroit Tigers won by a score of 2 to 0.
Schourek was obviously at the top of his game as he set the Kansas City batters down like so many dominoes. He walked 2 Kansas City batters. The tension was mounting with every inning after the 6th. Schourek appeared oblivious himself to the mounting history until two were out in the 9th. Only then, did he allow himself one deep sigh and a slow trip around the mound. Detroit took care of Kansas City with no trouble in the 9th.
Tim Belcher(4-6) was the losing pitcher. 'I gave it everything I had. It's probably the greatest day of my life,' Schourek said. 'I was out there focusing on my catcher's glove, that's all. I just concentrated on pitching my game.' [2] [1]SCORESHEET: 1997 Kansas City Royals at 1997 Detroit Tigers D.Hamilt-A1 A1:F/8 *4*:W>b1 C1:FO/2 D1:F/7
