april 13 Whitey Ford(2-1) and Dean Chance(0-3) locked horns in a pitcher's duel with Ford and the New York AL Yankees coming out on top of the Washington Senators 3 to 1. Washington surrendered all of the runs New York AL needed in the 8th inning scoring 3 runs on 4 hits. Pete Runnels started the inning off right when he drew a walk. Hector Lopez stepped into the batter's box and he stroked a base-hit. Tony Kubek then delivered a single which scored a run. Tom Tresh followed and he doubled scoring another run. Yogi Berra stepped into the box and would hit into a fielders choice scoring the final run of the inning. New York AL had 9 hits for the night. Hal Reniff got the save, his 1st.
