april 17 Eddie Mathews hit a homerun and had 4 RBI and Don Mossi went the
distance as the Detroit Tigers topped the New York AL Yankees by a score of 10 to 1 at Tiger Stadium. Detroit drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first
inning with 3 runs. Bill Bruton got things going when he drew a walk. Detroit's manager then called for a steal which was successful. Dick McAuliffe then drew a walk. Al Kaline followed and he would ground out resulting in a run. Norm Cash came to the plate and popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 6th of the season). That was all the runs Mossi(1-0) needed. Detroit had a total of 10 hits for the game. Carl Willey(0-2) was given the loss. His ERA increased from
3.86 to 7.88 as he allowed 8 runs in 2 innings.
