Eddie Mathews connected with a 'big fly' and had 3 RBI at Memorial Stadium as
the Detroit Tigers beat the Baltimore Orioles 12 to 7.

Mathews had a big evening at the plate.  He doubled in the 4th inning and
lofted a three-run bomb (his 5th of the season) in the 6th inning.  Detroit
had 13 hits for the night while Baltimore had 7.

Jim Bunning(3-1) got the win allowing 7 runs in 7 and 1/3 innings. Ray
Sadecki(1-1) was hit with the loss.  He allowed 5 hits and 3 walks in 1 and
2/3 innings.

GAME TWO*************************************************************************
The Tigers can't figure Moe's baffling array of off-speed junk. A pinch HR by weakling Jose Tartabull in the 8th was the only satisfaction for the Tigers.

off in a tense pitching duel, Detroit Tigers finally emerged victorious over

drew a walk.  Rocky Colavito then delivered a one-base hit scoring the run.
That was all the offense they were to need.  Detroit and Baltimore each
finished the night with 7 hits.
