Oakland scored at least eight runs in every game, but only won two out of three thanks to a brief appearance by the Baltimore offense.

Game 1: OAA 9, BAA 2

Oakland's Ben Grieve doubled in the game's first run in the bottom of the 1st, although Baltimore's Brady Anderson gunned down Eric Chavez at the plate to end the inning.  New Oriole Jermaine Allensworth singled in the tying run and scored on a wild pitch to put Baltimore ahead, 2-1.  But Matt Stairs tied it with a solo shot in the 3rd inning, and an intentional walk in the 4th set up a two-run single by Jason McDonald to give Oakland a 4-2 lead.  The A's blew it open in the 7th, thanks in large part to a big two-run single by Jason Giambi and a clutch two-out single by Desi Relaford that gave the A's their 9th and final run.

Game 2: BAA 10, OAA 8

Facing Jason Johnson in his major league debut, the Orioles opened the scoring in the 2nd thanks to solo shots by Mike Bordick and seldom-used 3rd string catcher Todd Pratt. Rafael Palmeiro hit a three-run bomb in the 3rd to make it 5-0.  But in the bottom of the frame, Orioles starter Pete Schourek loaded the bases, yielded a one-run single by Randy Velarde, uncorked a wild pitch for a second run, hit a batsman to reload the bases, and gave up a two run single by Troy to bring the A's within a run -- all with no outs. The Baltimore bullpen didn't fare much better in the 4th, as Matt Karchner loaded the bases and Rich Delucia gave up two bases-loaded walks to put the A's ahead 6-5.  The pendulum then swung the other way in the 5th. After Roberto Alomar doubled and scored, Johnson loaded the bases.  Reliever Chad Ogea came on to walk in the go-ahead run, followed by Pratt's two run double and a sac fly by Allensworth that made the score 10-6 in Baltimore's favor.  Oakland countered in the bottom of the frame, scoring two easy runs on a groundout and a wild pitch.   After that, maybe the batters were exhausted, but the scoring simply stopped. Both teams had opportunities -- the A's loaded the bases again with one out in the bottom of the 6th, and the O's had two on in the 9th. The anticlimactic finale was a rare 1-2-3 inning by O's closer Armando Benitez.

Game 3: OAA 8, BAA 3

Oakland took the lead in the 2nd when Scott Spiezio doubled and beat the throw home after Darrin Fletcher singled.  Giambi's solo shot in the 3rd gave the A's a 2-0 lead. In the 5th, Baltimore starter gave up an RBI single to Chavez and left with the bases loaded and one out.  LOOGY reliever Jesse Orosco got one out, but not two, as Giambi singled in two more for a five-run lead.  Stairs went deep in the 6th for two more Oakland runs.  A's starter Tom Candiotti took a two-hit shutout into the 8th before he followed Erickson's example, leaving with the bases loaded in one out.  Ogea, like Orosco, got the next batter out but then gave up a big hit, a three-run double by Alomar. But it was too little, too late. Fletcher added insult to injury with a solo homer in the bottom of the 8th vs. Orioles reliever Gabe White (when Fletcher had a projected OBP of .186.)
