Boston manages to win the first 2 games of the series despite the league's leading hitter not getting an at bat the entire series. Texas hit 3 homers in the series, on a total split of 4.
game 1: Boston used back to back doubles in the 3rd to score twice. Texas answered right back on an rbi double and a bases loaded walk to tie the game. Greer doubled in a run in the 5th to put Texas on top. In the 7th, Varitek hit a 3 run homer to give Boston the 5-3 win. Garces got his first save of the season by working 2 heart stopping innings. In the 9th, he struck out the first 2 batters he faced before giving up a double,single and walk to load the bases before getting the last out.
game 2: Stanley had an rbi single in the first but Orie homered in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. Nixon had an rbi single in the 3rd to put Boston up for good. Nixon doubled in a run in the 5th but Everett got it back with a homer in the bottom of the inning. Valentin had an rbi single in the 6th and Nixon homered in the 7th to make the final score 5-2. Lowe got the final 5 outs for his 15th save.
game 3: Every Ranger got a hit in this game. Boston got on the board first with Lewis hitting a 2 run double in the second inning. Santangelo tied it in the 3rd with a 2 run triple. After 2 strikeouts looked like Boston would get out of the inning, a split of 2 on an xplay to my 2 3b gave Texas the lead. Texas added to their lead when they pulled a double steal in the 5th, getting a 5 on the 1-5 chance at 2b. Huskey hit a 2 run homer in the top of the 8th to tie it. That lasted one batter as Palmeiro led off the bottom of the inning with a homer. With 2 out, Santangelo found the only chance in the column and pulled the max split on the bp single chance. Greer followed with a 2 run double to make the final score 7-4.
I know I'm going to jinx them, but Boston is a perfect 19-19 on save chances almost 1/3 of the way through the season.
