After being swept at home last week, Boston goes north of the border and returns the favor, taking 3 night games last night and the daytime finale just now.

Game 1: You knew it was going to be one of those games right off the bat. Boston's 2nd batter Gary Discarcina making his first appearance of the year, drew a 20 on his 1-19 single. The next batter also drew a 20. In the 3rd, they missed singles of 1-14 and 1-15, getting a 16 and 17 on the splits. In fact, it would take until the 6th inning for Boston to get a single digit split, including x plays. Meanwhile, Toronto's first 3 hits were all x plays, including one with a runner held. Boston couldn't even buy a break in the 9th on an x-play to a 4e88 at ss. Needless to say, it was scoreless until the 6th. Bichette's single loaded the bases and Nixon followed with a 2 run double (split of 11). Foolishly expecting a low split at some time, the 3rd out drew an 18 on his 1-12 chance to score. Delgado's rbi single in the bottom of the inning, (the aforementioned runner held x play) cut the lead to 1. Boston's 2nd low split was a Varitek homer to make the final score 3-1. On the mound, Wakefield struck out 8, the first 3 he faced and the last 3 he faced. Jackson pitched the last 2 for his 5th save.

Game 2: If fans were expecting a well pitched, low scoring game like game 1, they left disappointed. Pat Rapp allowed 10 hits, 6 walks and 7 runs in 8 innings and still cruised to a win because the Toronto pitching was even worse. 11 was wild for the Sox in this one. They got 11 hits, 11 walks and 11 runs (and managed to leave 14 on base). Daubach had a 2 run double in the 2nd and that was followed by 3 straight walks to give Boston a 4-0 lead. The first 4 Toronto batters reached in the bottom of the 2nd. A walk and 2 singles preceeded Walbeck's grand slam that tied the game. The teams traded runs in the 4th. In the 5th, Boston put up a 6 spot. Eusebio doubled in a run, Offerman, tripled him in and then Sefcik singled him in. 2 batters later, Encarnacion doubled in 2 runs. Another round of 3 straight walks forced in the last run. Dunston reached on an error and then scored on a wild pitch in the 5th and Delgado had a sac fly in the 6th to make the final score 11-7.

Game 3: Boston jumped to an early lead, getting an unearned run in the 2nd on a grounder . Encarnacion had an rbi single in the 3rd and then was caught stealing on a 1-19 chance. Stewart had an rbi single in the 5th to get Toronto on the board and Servais made up for his error by homering in the 7th to tie the game. 3 straight one out singles in the top of the 8th gave Boston the lead. After a pb/walk loaded the bases, Encarnacion had a sac fly to make the final score 4-2. Toronto had just 4 hits (the 2 mentioned and 2 doubles by Dunston). In no surprise whatsoever, Boston stranded 15, thanks to 10 hits and 9 more free passes.

Game 4: With Pedro taking the mound, the Jays would be hard pressed to match their hit total of game 3 and they didn't. They settled for 2 doubles among their 3 hits (making 5 of their last 7 hits xbh). This one was scoreless until the 5th when Varitek hit another homer. Offerman missed a hr in the 6th thanks to being a W, but Nixon had a 3 run triple and scored on a Valentin single to blow this one open. Oleary added a late auto hr to make the final score 6-0. Pedro tossed 7 shutout innings to lower his era to 1.87. He struck out 10 for the 13th time in 20 starts.
