Teams alternate wins in the always entertaining Coors Field. game 1: Finley had an rbi single in the 4th to open the scoring. Darr hit a 3 run homer in the 5th to cap a 4 run inning. Echavarria had a 2 run shot in the 6th to get Colorado on the board. Darr's 2nd homer of the game made it 7-2 and then the wheels fell off for SD. Barry led off the 7th with a homer. Erstad (2e2) let a ball get past him for what was ruled a single. That led to Jackson's 2 run 2out sinigle to make it 7-5. The SD bullpen then pulled off the triple Sambito. Springer came in to start the 8th and allowed homers to the first 2 batters he faced to tie the game. Rick White came on for the 9th and allowed a hr to the first batter he faced as Colorado pulled out the 8-7 win. game 2: Rockies got 2 in the 2nd on (surprise) yet another home run. Gwynn grounded out with the bases loaded in the 3rd and Lieberthal doubled in 2 runs to put SD up 3-2. After Bell walked to start the 4th. Erstad doubled and came all the way around when Lee misplayed the ball in rf. Lieberthal added an rbi single later in the inning to make it 6-2. Rivera hit a 2 run homer in the 5th and Lieberthal homered in the 6th to make it 9-2. Colorado opened the 6th with 4 straight hits and a ground out to score 3 runs and make SD start to sweat. Colorado got a run in the 8th but couldn't get another comeback win as SD held on for the 9-6 win. game 3: Davis had an rbi double in the first but a 2nd run (1-17 chance) was cut down at the plate to end the inning. Three singles in the 3rd put SD up 2-0 but Castillo hit a 3 run homer in the bottom of the inning to put Colorado up. They added a run in the 4th on a walk, wild pitch and 2 ground outs. The first 5 Rockies had hits in the 6th inning to make the final score 8-2. Astocio struck out 13 in the complete game win. game 4: Williams gave up a couple of 4 run innings but still managed to get the win in this one for SD. Gwynn had an rbi double and then scored in the first to make it 2-0. Bell had an rbi single in the 3rd but Colorado put up 4 in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. 3 doubles, an error and a botched bunt (i thought it was a stolen base attempt and couldn't throw out the 1-9 lead runner) did the damage. SD went back on top in the 4th as Gwynn hit a 3 run homer. Williams helped himself out with a 2 run double in the 5th but Colorado opened the 5th with 2b-3b-hr-2b as they scored 4 times to tie the game. Nevin hit into a bases loaded force in the 6th to put SD up for good. After a scoreless 7th, SD got 3 runs on Bell's 2 run single and a sac fly to give them some breathing room. Wiki Gonzalez opened the 9th with a pinch hit homer and Bell had an rbi single to make the final 14-8. Gwynn's line for the game was 4-5-4-4 with 2 walks. |
