A couple of big innings and a couple of overcome blown leads in game 3 help push KC's season opening losing streak to 12.

game 1: Nomar drew a 14 on his 1-10 bp homer chance in the first but Sweeney got a 7 on his chance to put KC up early. That would be their offense for the game as they managed just 5 hits. Boston tied it in the 2nd when Segui led off the inning with a homer. Boston took the lead in the 3rd on a Garciaparra sac fly (another missed bp homer). Stayed that way until the 8th. After 2 outs, Varitek doubled 1-16 hr missed) and Nomar was walked intentionally. Bichette singled to load the bases and Segui followed with a 2 run single. Everett singled to load the bases and Nixon drew a walk to force in another run. Wilton Veres then had one of the rarer plays in baseball, a 3 run triple to cap the 6 run inning. Boston went on to win 8-1.

game 2: KC out hit Boston 12-7 but Boston drew 13 walks (to KC's 1). Boston loaded the bases in the first on 2 walks and a single. Bichette hit into a run scoring double play before Segui singled in run #2. A walk and single followed to reload the bases. The only reason Boston didn't leave them loaded (on the way to 14 lob for the game) was a wild pitch that brought in run #3. KC chipped away as Martinez had an rbi double in the 2nd, Randa an rbi single in the 4th and Sweeney an rbi grounder in the 5th to tie the game. Elarton issued the last 2 of his 9 walks to open the 6th and was replaced by Shaw. After getting 2 outs, Segui touched him for a 3 run homer. Witasick came on and did a double Sambito as Everett and Nixon greeted him with homers. KC used 4 straight 2 out singles in the bottom of the 7th to cut the game to 8-5 but that was how it ended.

game 3: Dye had a 2 run homer in the first to get KC going. 2 singled and 2 doubles, the last by series superstar Segui, produced 3 runs in the 4th to put Boston on top. They added another run in the 6th on a Varitek single. After retiring the first 2 batters of the 7th, Wakefield allowed 2 singles before Dye connected off him again to give KC the 5-4 lead. Down to their last out in the 9th (after 2 quick outs) Lewis and Lansing singled. Garciaparra was walked intentionally and Bichette made them pay as he came through with a 2 run single. Lowe came on to close out the game. He allowed 2 triples and the game went into extras. Bichette was once again the hero as he homered with 1 out in the 12th to give Boston the 7-6 win.
