AUGUST 6

Jake Wood went yard and had 2 RBI as the Detroit Tigers beat the New York AL
Yankees by a score of 5 to 4.

Detroit tallied 3 runs in the 3rd inning when they had 3 base hits.  The
crucial at-bat was provided by Wood who made the crowd come alive when he
bombed a two-run dinger (his 5th of the season).  New York AL had a chance to
come back in the 9th but they came up short.

The victory was credited to Jim Bunning(15-7) who went 6 innings, allowing 3
runs. Mickey Lolich got the save, his 3rd.  The loss was charged to Whitey
Ford(11-10).

It was another victory for Detroit at Tiger Stadium.  Now their winning streak
stands at 6 games. Detroit's manager was happy with his team's performance of
late - 'They're playing solid ball right now' he said.  'Let's hope they can
stay focused.'

AUGUST 7

First baseman Norm Cash launched 2 homeruns at Tiger Stadium wherethe
sizzling Detroit Tigers beat the New York AL Yankees by the score of 9 to
0.

In the 2nd inning Detroit went on top for good plating an isolated run using 2
hits.  The early run support proved sufficient for Johnny Podres(9-9) and
Detroit.  That was all the run support Podres required.  Detroit had 12 hits
for the afternoon while New York AL had 6.

Ralph Terry(14-9) was tagged with the loss.  He served up 3 gopher balls in 6
innings.  No one has been able to stop Detroit lately as they lengthened
their winning streak to 7 games.
