AUGUST 4 The Detroit Tigers nipped the New York AL Yankees 5 to 4 at Tiger Stadium in a hard fought contest. Detroit came up with the deciding runs in the 8th inning scoring 3 runs utilizing 2 base hits. Al Kaline started the inning off right when he lined a single. Rocky Colavito next to the plate and he drew a walk. Norm Cash then clubbed a three-run home run (his 20th of the season). Detroit totaled 10 on the night. Ron Kline(10-4) went 2 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Bill Kunkel(2-2) suffered the loss in relief. He pitched 1 inning giving up 2 hits and 1 walk.
