AUGUST 15 Hal Reniff stopped Kansas City cold as the New York AL Yankees topped the struggling Kansas City A's by a score of 6 to 5 at Municipal Stadium. New York AL tallied 5 runs in the top of the 7th inning when they had 4 base hits. The highlight belonged to Hector Lopez who silenced Municipal Stadium as he belted a three-run homer (his 14th of the season). Reniff relieved and was untouched by Kansas City as he recorded the save, his 20th. Ralph Terry(17-9) allowed 5 runs in 6 innings, and picked up the victory. Dick Egan(0-4) was the losing pitcher in relief. New York AL now has a record of 72-63. Still in a bad slump, with this loss, Kansas City is 2-8 lately and 51-84, worst in the division on the year. Kansas City was out-hit by New York AL, 17 hits to 10. The winning pitcher was Stan Williams(4-7) who allowed 2 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings. Dallas Green(4-7) was the losing pitcher. Kansas City tallied 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning when they had 4 base hits. The key at-bat was by Vic Power who brought a roar from the partisan Municipal Stadium fans when he lined a one-base hit scoring two baserunners. New York AL threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short. The win was credited to Wickersham(9-16) who went the whole way allowing 4 runs. Whitey Ford(12-11) suffered the loss. He pitched 7 innings and surrendered 8 hits and 2 walks.
