AUGUST 25

Shortstop Tony Kubek had 2 base hits at Metropolitan Stadium as the New York
AL Yankees beat the Minnesota Twins by the count of 5 to 4.

New York AL brought 3 runs across the plate in the top of the 7th inning when
they had 4 base hits.  They would hold up as the winning runs.  Minnesota
made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs
across.

Whitey Ford(13-11) got the win allowing 3 runs in 8 innings. Hal Reniff
recorded his 23rd save.  The losing pitcher was Jim Perry(7-8).  'Just one or
two mistakes were all it took to beat us tonight' Minnesota's manager said.
'We take these games one day at a time, but this one was hard to take.'

AUGUST 26

Mickey Mantle smacked 4 homeruns and had 11 RBI as the New York AL Yankees
destroyed the Minnesota Twins by a score of 19 to 2 at Metropolitan
Stadium.

Mantle was in a groove all evening.  The Minnesota fans hated to see him
approaching the batter's box.  He lofted a three-run 'big-fly' in the 1st
inning, hit a bases-empty home run in the 3rd inning, smashed a two-run homer
in the 6th inning, doubled clearing all three ducks off the pond. in the 6th
inning and bombed a two-run dinger (his 16th of the season) in the 8th
inning.  New York AL bats were hot in the 6th inning with 8 runs on 7 hits.
New York AL had 24 hits for the night while Minnesota had 3.

The victory was credited to Ralph Terry(19-9) who went 7 innings, allowing 2
runs. Jim Kaat(0-9) was hit with the loss.  He served up 4 homeruns in his 5
innings.

'I was in my hotel room the other night, working on my swing and made some
adjustments,' Mantle said. 'I'm always working on it. If they are getting you
out certain ways, you've got to make changes.'
