San Francisco lost a heartbreaker in the season opener 5-4 as the St. Louis Cardinals
powered up in the late innings.  The Giants and Gaylord Perry were cruising along with a
2-0 lead heading to the bottom of the 9th.  Lou brock reached on a HBP to lead off the
inning and with 2 outs, Orlando Cepeda popped a game tying 2 run homer.     

Lindy  McDaniel started the 10th and pinch Dave Ricketts ended the game on one pitch
with a solo homer.  Rusty Staub had 3 hits for the Giants in the loss.

St. Louis edged San Francisco 5-4 in game 2 of this series.  Again the Giants led 2-0 after 4 innings.  
St. Louis took the lead in the 5th inning as pitcher Larry Jackson had a RBI single and Lou Brock did
the damage with a 2 run double to give the Cards a 3-2 lead. St. Louis added a run in the 6th when
Orlando Cepeda doubled, moved to 3rd on a Tim McCarver base hit and scored on a Mike McCormick wild
pitch.
San Francisco added a run in the 8th on a Rusty Staub RBI single.

St. Louis got the sweep in the opening series of 1967 as Lou Brock was again the 
hero in extra innings. The Cardinals took an early 2-0 lead after 2 innings on
a 2 run homer by Julian Javier. St. Louis went up 4-1 after 7 before the Giant
bats finally woke up. San Francisco plated 3 runs in the 8th to tie it up.
 
Julio Gotay led off the inning with a single, followed by a Jesus triple. A
Rusty Staub groundou scored Alou before Jim Ray Hart homered to tie it at 4.
The game then headed for extra innings before St. Louis rallied in the 11th.
Dal Maxvill led of the inning with a base hit, advanced to 2nd on a Tony Taylor
bunt before Brock came through with the game winning hit.
