St. Louis got the sweep in the opening series of 1967 as Lou Brock was again the hero in extra innings. The Cardinals took an early 2-0 lead after 2 innings on a 2 run homer by Julian Javier. St. Louis went up 4-1 after 7 before the Giant bats finally woke up. San Francisco plated 3 runs in the 8th to tie it up. Julio Gotay led off the inning with a single, followed by a Jesus triple. A Rusty Staub groundou scored Alou before Jim Ray Hart homered to tie it at 4. The game then headed for extra innings before St. Louis rallied in the 11th. Dal Maxvill led of the inning with a base hit, advanced to 2nd on a Tony Taylor bunt before Brock came through with the game winning hit.
