Subject: HAL and lineup selection

I've already mentioned to some owners (as they were submitting CMs for week
1) that they are allowed to use four defualt lineups, rather than just two.

Regardless of how you "name" a particular lineup, when HAL selects one (as
he does for all of your Home games), he interprets them as follows:

Lineup 1: vs normal lefty
Lineup 2: vs normal righty
Lineup 3: vs reverse lefty
Lineup 4: vs reverse righty

"Normal" describes a pitcher whose Balance rating is even, or one who is
better against batters he is normally expected to be better against: a RHP
is normally better against RHB; a LHP is normally better against LHB.

"Reverse" is the opposite of "Normal": a RHP who is better against LHB, or a
LHP who is better against RHB.

As I have mentioned, you are *not* required to specify all 4 possible
lineups. The purpose of this message, however, is to point out the
following:

*** If HAL does not find the appropriate lineup, he will invent one to use
for the game ***

For example, in the Tigers/Twins series, Joe Sparma (a RHP with a 1L Balance
rating) started a game. Minnesota only specified two lineups, so HAL
invented a lineup for the Twins when Sparma (a reverse righy) pitched.

So if you see a game where your team used a lineup that you don't recognize,
this is likely the reason why. To make sure that you have maximum control
over your lineups in Home games, I would recommend creating all four
lineups.

Also, while I have received results from several series so far, I do not
believe I've seen any CM updates in the files that were sent. Of course,
CMs may be sent separately (and may not require updates every week anyway),
but the deadline is the same for both game files and CMs - Sundays at 8 AM
eastern.

Alan
