New York AL had the winning rally in the 9th inning when they scored 4 runs on 4 hits. This was the kind of game that many fans love as the lead changed hands 5 times. Steve Hamilton(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 and 2/3 innings and allowing no runs. John Wyatt(0-1) was the loser in relief. It was a tough loss for him as he did not allow an earned run in his 1 inning of work. After the game, it took a long while before Tom Austad emerged from his office. In a subdued tone he answered only a couple of questions. He concluded with, 'Fellows, sorry I'm not in a very talkative mood this afternoon, as I think you'll understand. I'm sure you'll find the banter a lot more light-hearted over in the New York AL locker room.'
