Los Angeles pulled one out in the 9th inning to edge the Giants, 2-1.
This was a classic pitcher's duel between Claude Osteen and
Gaylord Perry. The Dodgers took a 1-0 lead in the 6th as Dick
Schofield doubled in a "speedy" John Roseboro from 1st. San
Francisco tied it up in the 8th when Jim Davenport singled in
Jack Hiatt.
The Dodgers won the game in the 9th as Jim Lefebvre walked and
moved to 2nd on a Willie Davis single. Frank Linzy entered to face
Ron Hunt and he was pinch hit for by Len Gabrielson. Gabrielson then
knocked in Lefebvre with the game winner.

Strat-O-Matic Report

Los Angeles pulled out another tight one, 2-1, as the Giants fell to a
disappointing 1-9 to open the season. San Francisco took the early
lead in the 1st inning as Hal Lanier doubled and scored on a Rusty
Staub base hit. Mike McCormick was lights out until the 7th when
the Dodgers tied it up. Max Alvis and Lou Johnson led off the inning
with singles, and with 2 outs Ron Hunt doubled in Alvis to tie the game.
Los Angeles took the lead in the 8th as Wes Parker led off the inning
with a triple. Parker was out on a Jim Lefebvre grounder, and a Willie
Davis grounder pushed Lefebvre to 2nd. Max Alvis then doubled in
the game winner to send the hated Giants to another crushing defeat.
