Second baseman Horace Clarke had 4 hits and scored 3 times as the New York AL
Yankees defeated the Kansas City A's 8 to 3 at Municipal Stadium.

Bill Monbouquette(1-1) struggled but was good enough to win with the help of
some fine defensive plays.  He gave up 9 hits and no walks in 5 and 1/3
innings.  The New York AL offense poured it on, scoring in 7 of the 9
innings.

The losing pitcher was Chuck Dobson(1-2).  He allowed 10 hits and 3 walks in 6
and 1/3 innings.

Catfish Hunter dominated striking out 10 New York AL batters at Municipal
Stadium as the Kansas City A's staged a comeback win over the New York AL
Yankees in 14 innings by the count of 6 to 5.

The game was deadlocked at 2 after nine full innings.  Kansas City won the
game in the 14th inning.  Joe Nossek led off the inning for Kansas City when
he doubled.  Bert Campaneris came next and he doubled bringing in a run.
Campaneris proceeded to steal third base.  Jim Gosger got his turn next, but
he was a strikeout victim.  Dick Allen stepped into the box and laced a
one-base hit scoring one more run.  Kansas City continued their aggressive
style with another stolen base.  Tim Talton came to the plate and lined a
base-hit resulting in an exciting win for Kansas City and a wild post-game
celebration by the home town fans.  A wild affair, this game saw the lead
change 5 times.

Tony Pierce(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing 3 runs in 2 innings. The loss
was charged to Thad Tillotson(0-1) in relief.  He allowed 1 run and 2 hits in
1/3 of an inning.

Rick Monday had 3 base hits and 3 RBI at Municipal Stadium where the Kansas
City A's beat the New York AL Yankees 8 to 7.

Kansas City tallied 5 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning when they had 4
base hits.  They would hold up as the winning runs.  New York AL made it
exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.

The winning pitcher was Paul Lindblad(1-0) who allowed 4 runs in 7 innings.
Lindblad got help from Bob Allen who was credited with his 1st save.  The
loss was charged to Mel Stottlemyre(0-1).  He was touched for 9 hits and 2
walks in 5 innings.

'Just one or two mistakes were all it took to beat us today' Billy Vanson
said.  'We take these games one day at a time, but this one was hard to
take.'
