april 10 Second baseman Horace Clarke had 4 hits and scored 3 times as the New York AL Yankees defeated the Kansas City A's 8 to 3 at Municipal Stadium. Bill Monbouquette(1-1) struggled but was good enough to win with the help of some fine defensive plays. He gave up 9 hits and no walks in 5 and 1/3 innings. The New York AL offense poured it on, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings. The losing pitcher was Chuck Dobson(1-2). He allowed 10 hits and 3 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings. The game was deadlocked at 2 after nine full innings. Kansas City won the game in the 14th inning. Joe Nossek led off the inning for Kansas City when he doubled. Bert Campaneris came next and he doubled bringing in a run. Campaneris proceeded to steal third base. Jim Gosger got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim. Dick Allen stepped into the box and laced a one-base hit scoring one more run. Kansas City continued their aggressive style with another stolen base. Tim Talton came to the plate and lined a base-hit resulting in an exciting win for Kansas City and a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans. A wild affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times. Tony Pierce(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing 3 runs in 2 innings. The loss was charged to Thad Tillotson(0-1) in relief.
