AUGUST 15 The Washington Senators nipped the New York AL Yankees 3 to 2 at D.C. Stadium in a hard fought contest. Washington scored all of the necessary runs in the 5th inning scoring 3 runs on 2 hits. Julio Gotay led off and started the rally when he drew a walk. Pete Burnside stepped up to the plate and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Woodie Held then cracked a two-run shot (his 21st of the season). Gino Cimoli followed and he drew a walk. After another out, Harry Bright came up and he laced a one-base hit. Bob Turley then bounced one in the dirt for a wild pitch scoring the final run of the inning. Burnside(8-9) was helped out by Tom Cheney who pitched a perfect ninth and recorded his 6th save. Turley(3-2) was the losing pitcher. He pitched 5 innings and surrendered 4 hits and 6 walks.
