AUGUST 15

The Washington Senators nipped the New York AL Yankees 3 to 2 at D.C. Stadium
in a hard fought contest.

Washington scored all of the necessary runs in the 5th inning scoring 3 runs
on 2 hits.  Julio Gotay led off and started the rally when he drew a walk.
Pete Burnside stepped up to the plate and he laid down a sacrifice bunt.
Woodie Held then cracked a two-run shot (his 21st of the season).  Gino
Cimoli followed and he drew a walk.  After another out, Harry Bright came up
and he laced a one-base hit.  Bob Turley then bounced one in the dirt for a
wild pitch scoring the final run of the inning.  Burnside(8-9) was helped out
by Tom Cheney who pitched a perfect ninth and recorded his 6th save.

Turley(3-2) was the losing pitcher.  He pitched 5 innings and surrendered 4
hits and 6 walks.
