Subject: Tigers @ White Sox

Into the third game this morning I realized after a curious decision by the CHA CM (Bob Locker R 4R was inserted to face Norm Cash L 3R, who hit a 3-run HR giving the Tigers a 9-3 lead) that I had forgot to give the CHA team it's 5-day rest. Otherwise I'm sure Wilbur Wood or John O'Donoghue would've came in.

Anyway, after consulting with the commissioner I replayed all three from the start, this time giving CHA players the requisite rest. The results thankfully ended the same as DEA won the first two 4-2 and 8-3 and CHA won the last by a score of 3-2. Don Buford scored on single by Jerry McNertney. The PBP said Kaline threw the ball away for an error allowing Buford to score (he was a 1-16 safe) but the boxscore credits the slugging McNertney with a double. The official scorer must have reviewed the play. SOM write-ups below.

GAME 1
In a tight game it was the Detroit Tigers 4, the Chicago AL White Sox 2 at
Comiskey Park.
Detroit had 2 runs cross the plate in the top of the 7th inning.  Detroit finished with 7 hits while Chicago AL ended up with 3.

Denny McLain(2-1) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 6 innings. Mike
Marshall gained credit for his 3rd save.  Gary Peters(2-2) suffered the loss.
He pitched 6 and 2/3 innings and surrendered 5 hits and 6 walks.

GAME 2
Mickey Lolich had 2 base hits as the Detroit Tigers topped the Chicago
White Sox by a score of 8 to 3 at Comiskey Park.
Lolich(3-1) pitched well enough to earn the win.  He went 6 innings allowing 7 hits and 1 walk.  Lolich racked up 7 strikeouts and surrendered 2 'long-bombs'to Gerry McNertney (!).  Detroit had a total of 8 hits for the game.  Norm Cash finally launched his first HR of the year, a 2-run smash in the eighth into the upper deck at Comiskey.

Bruce Howard (0-1) absorbed the loss.  He gave up 4 hits and 3 walks in 4 and
2/3 innings.  With this win, Detroit has a 8-8 record.  They have been 4-6
lately.  With the loss Chicago  now has a record of 9-7, 2 1/2 games behind the league-leading Baltimore Orioles.

GAME 3
In a dramatic ending at Comiskey Park the Chicago  White Sox won in their
last at-bat beating the Detroit Tigers by the count of 3 to 2.

Chicago  won the game with a run in the 9th inning.  After an out was recorded, Tommie Agee was hit by a pitch.  Don Buford was next and he drew a
walk.  After another out, Gerry McNertney stepped in and he doubled giving
Chicago the victory as 21 happy fans celebrated wildly.  Chicago
had a total of 9 hits for the game.

The win was credited to Don McMahon(1-0) who went 1/3 of an inning allowing no runs. Detroit's #1 draft pick Luis Tiant (0-2)  took the loss in relief.  He gave up no hits and 1 walk in 1/3 of an inning.
