Subject: !!!!!! RESULTS !!!!! New York @ Boston

sept 8

Whitey Ford came through with a solid 9 innings as the New York AL Yankees
defeated the Boston Red Sox by the score of 2 to 0 at Fenway Park.

New York AL came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning scoring
2 runs on 2 hits.  Tom Tresh started the scoring when he ripped a solo home
run (his 20th of the season).  Dale Long stepped up next and he smashed a
solo-shot out of the park (his 4th of the season).  New York AL had just 5
hits for the night.

For Ford(10-18) it was his 2nd shutout this year. The loss was charged to Jack
Sanford(10-12).  'We didn't have a whole lot of chances tonight,' Boston's
manager said.  'Ford just was too much for our guys.'

sept 10
Elston Howard had 2 base hits as the New York AL Yankees rallied impressively
to win in dramatic style over Boston Red Sox, 5 to 4.

New York AL erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning as they
scored 4 runs on 4 base hits.  The crucial at-bat was provided by Jack Reed
who quieted the home crowd when he tripled plating two runs.  Both teams
ended up with 7 on the night.

Tex Clevenger(6-4) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Ryne Duren
recorded his 15th save.  Arnold Earley(1-1) ended up with the loss in relief.
By giving up 1 run in 2/3 of an inning his ERA increased from 1.50 to 2.70.

After the game, it took a long while before Boston's manager emerged from his
office.  In a subdued tone he answered only a couple of questions.  He
concluded with, 'Fellows, sorry I'm not in a very talkative mood tonight, as
I think you'll understand.  I'm sure you'll find the banter a lot more
light-hearted over in the New York AL locker room.'
