3rd game of this series, quite possibly the
greatest game I have ever played in 20+ years of Strat. Yankees blew 2 different
leads in extra frames. april 3 The San Francisco Giants nipped the New York AL Yankees in 12
innings 5 to 4 at Candlestick Park in a hard fought contest. Both teams were tied at 4 runs apiece after nine innings. San
Francisco won it in the 12th inning. Ed Bailey drew a walk. Matty Alou followed and he ripped a base-knock. Tommy Davis then laid down a sacrifice bunt. Jerry Lumpe stepped in and he delivered a base-hit making San Francisco the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. San Francisco and New York AL each finished the night with 9 hits. The winning pitcher was Dick Lemay(1-0) who allowed no runs in 3
innings. Jim Coates(0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. He gave up 1 run and 3 hits in 1 and 1/3 innings.
