Harvey Haddix allowed 3 hits while blanking New York AL as the Boston Red Sox
defeated the New York AL Yankees by a score of 4 to 0 at Fenway
Park.

Haddix(2-1) escaped virtually unscathed against the New York AL hitters.  He
allowed just 3 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings.  Boston had just 4 hits for the
night.

Ted Bowsfield(0-2) was tagged with the loss.  When questioned about his
counterpart after the game, Bowsfield was lavish in his praise, 'It was
obvious very early on that we were going to be in for a long night.  Haddix
brought his 'A' game with him - he had good stuff and was able to spot it
perfectly.  He probably only made one or two bad pitches the entire game!

April 21

With the crowd on their collective feet, screaming at the top of their lungs,
Boston Red Sox rallied to top New York AL Yankees by the score of 5 to
4.

Boston erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs
utilizing 3 base hits.  Joe Pignatano led off the inning for Boston when he
stroked a base-hit.  Pancho Herrera next to the plate and he banged out a
single.  After an out was recorded, Pete Runnels stepped in and he drew a
walk to load the bases.  Ruben Amaro stepped in and he was hit by a pitch
scoring a run.  Carroll Hardy followed, but he was set down on strikes.
Chuck Schilling did his part to keep things going and laced a one-base hit
giving Boston the win much to the delight of the home town crowd.  Boston had
12 hits overall, while New York AL had 6.

The win went to Lindy McDaniel(1-1) who allowed 1 run in 1 inning. Luis
Arroyo(0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief.  The Boston ballclub's record
now stands at 9-7.  With the loss New York AL now has a record of 6-10, worst
in the division.

WEB GEMS- Bot 6th: New York AL turns a triple play!

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

April 23

At Fenway Park, the Boston faithful were treated to an intriguing pitcher's
duel.  Barry Latman(2-0) finally bested his New York AL counterpart, Ralph
Terry(0-3), by the score of 2 to 1.

Latman looked very much in control throughout the night.  He allowed just 7
hits and 1 walk in 8 innings improving his ERA from 3.97 to 2.33.  New York
AL had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.

Arnold Earley got the save, his 2nd.  Terry ended up with the loss.  'We won
because we did the little things right.' Boston's manager said after the
game.  'This is why we practice things over and over and over, so when we get
in close games we don't make mistakes.'
