april 27 Mickey Mantle had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the New York AL Yankees beat the Baltimore Orioles by a score of 10 to 3. Mantle provided much of the offense. He doubled plating a run in the 1st inning, doubled knocking in a run in the 3rd inning, stroked a one-base hit in the 5th inning and doubled plating a run in the 9th inning. New York AL had 14 hits overall, while Baltimore had 6. Whitey Ford(4-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 innings and allowing 3 runs. Wynn Hawkins(2-1) ended up with the loss. He was not very effective, surrendering 6 runs in 2 and 2/3 innings. The New York AL ballclub's record now stands at 10-12. With the loss Baltimore now has a record of 9-13, worst in the division. Baltimore came up with the deciding runs in the 8th inning scoring 3 runs on 2 hits. After an out was recorded, Luis Aparicio keyed the rally when he delivered a base-hit. Chuck Hinton came to the plate and drew a walk. Jim Gentile then drew a walk to load the bases. Frank Thomas came up and he ripped a base-knock, and an error was also committed, with all three runners coming home. The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.
