Mickey Mantle had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the New York AL Yankees beat the
Baltimore Orioles by a score of 10 to 3.

Mantle provided much of the offense.  He doubled plating a run in the 1st
inning, doubled knocking in a run in the 3rd inning, stroked a one-base hit
in the 5th inning and doubled plating a run in the 9th inning.  New York AL
had 14 hits overall, while Baltimore had 6.

Whitey Ford(4-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 innings and allowing 3
runs. Wynn Hawkins(2-1) ended up with the loss.  He was not very effective,
surrendering 6 runs in 2 and 2/3 innings.

The New York AL ballclub's record now stands at 10-12.  With the loss
Baltimore now has a record of 9-13, worst in the division.

In a good matchup it was the Baltimore Orioles 4, the New York AL Yankees 2 at
Memorial Stadium.

Baltimore came up with the deciding runs in the 8th inning scoring 3 runs on 2
hits.  After an out was recorded, Luis Aparicio keyed the rally when he
delivered a base-hit.  Chuck Hinton came to the plate and drew a walk.  Jim
Gentile then drew a walk to load the bases.  Frank Thomas came up and he
ripped a base-knock, and an error was also committed, with all three runners
coming home.  The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the 6th
inning.

The winning pitcher was Bob Shaw(1-3) who allowed no runs in 2 innings. Luis
Arroyo(0-2) absorbed the loss in relief.  He pitched 1 inning and surrendered
2 hits and 2 walks.
